If you’re like us and you planted way more zucchini than you need, these Deep Fried Stuffed Squash Blossoms are just what you need! You can use really any squash flower that is large enough to stuff. The whole flower, even the stem is edible!
Do you ever go to a recipe only to find pages of text that you really don’t care to read? Me too, I promise my recipes won’t look like that! This is the first recipe, so if you try it please let me know what you think and if you want me to keep posting recipes.
Ingredients
For the Stuffed Blossoms
For the Batter
For the Frying
Preparation
Step 1: Pick the blossoms fresh from the plant the day of or the day before you plan to make the dish. The ones that are slightly curled closed are perfect for stuffing.
Step 2: Mix together the stuffing. Add ricotta, an egg, diced garlic, parmesan, lemon juice, herbs, and seasoning to a bowl and mix well until combined.
Step 3: Add your stuffing mixture to a ziplock baggie and make a small cut in the corner. This will act as your piping bag.
Step 4: Stuff all of the flowers as full as they can get and set aside while you make the batter. If you have extra stuffing it is amazing spread on a piece of bread and toasted in the oven!
Step 5: Add flour and a carbonated beverage to a bowl and mix until you have a consistency that runs right off the whisk. It should be a thinner batter. Add in seasonings to taste. Feel free to experiment!
Step 6: Add oil to a large pan and heat it up on med-high heat. Drop a little batter in to test its readiness.
Step 7: Once it’s ready add in the flowers and let them fry until golden brown on one side. Flip them over and finish frying until golden brown throughout.
Step 8: Enjoy hot, while they are nice and crispy!
